The Only Surf Camp on the East Cape

Welcome to The Baja Station, a beachfront surf lodge on a remote stretch of coastline called the East Cape, just thirty minutes outside of Cabo, in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

We’re more than just a place to stay, we’re an off-grid community built around surf, art, science, and nature. With an onsite music and film studio, a carpentry workshop, a café, and regular live music sessions, there’s always something happening.

A typical day

6.00 Wake up at sunrise and gather at the Cafe for Coffee and fruit

6.30 Load the boards on the car and head out on the road in search for empty waves

07:00 Arrive at a break and head out for a surf. Depending on conditions

11:00 Head back to the Station for Brunch. Chill out in the hammocks.

15:00 Head out on the road again scouting for afternoon surf session

18:30 Return to the station for dinner

More than just surfing

When you’re surfed out, there’s still plenty to keep the stoke alive. We’ve got a fully equipped music studio on-site for jam sessions, and every Sunday we host live music events that bring everyone together. Craving something more laid-back? Catch an outdoor movie under the stars at our cinema nights, or just chill in our lively café and lounge, there’s always a good crew hanging around.

Feeling like switching it up? We’ve got gear for snorkeling (the underwater world here is unreal), and we can take you deep-sea fishing or sailing on our catamaran.

Your stay also includes a few epic excursions:
Join us for a fun night out in the historic art town of San José del Cabo, and experience a full-day road trip into the Sierra Madre mountains, where rivers and waterfalls show you a whole other side of Baja.

Living on the East Cape during summer means embracing a warm, simple, and nature-connected lifestyle. Daytime temperatures hover around 34–35°C (rarely hotter), with moderate humidity that adds a tropical feel without becoming overwhelming. The sea stays beautifully warm — around 27–29°C — perfect for daily surf sessions, swimming, or diving. Life moves slowly in the midday heat, with early mornings and evenings being the most active times. Nights are comfortably warm, and sleeping with a fan is usually enough to stay cool. The area remains quiet and off-grid, with dirt roads, minimal services, and a strong connection to the land and sea. Occasional tropical storms bring dramatic skies and brief bursts of rain that breathe life into the desert.

The East Cape of Baja California Sur is known for its long, peeling right-hand point breaks and warm, crystal-clear water. Most waves break over cobblestone or sandy bottoms, offering fun, user-friendly conditions ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers. Swells roll in cleanly from the south during summer, with consistent offshore winds in the mornings, creating smooth, glassy conditions. While some spots can hold serious size, the majority of waves are playful, fast, and perfect for long rides.

The East Cape offers long, fast right-hand point breaks that are ideal for experienced surfers but can be challenging for beginners. Many waves break over rocky or shallow cobblestone bottoms, and the takeoffs can be steep and quick. There are often strong currents and limited whitewater zones, which means there’s not much room for error. While the waves are beautiful and rewarding, they require good board control, confidence in the lineup, and some local knowledge to surf safely.

La Fortuna is a uniquely special location on the East Cape, offering the perfect balance of remoteness and accessibility. Tucked between the mountains and the sea, it’s just 30–40 minutes from San José del Cabo, yet feels worlds away from the bustle of town. La Fortuna offers a consistent beach break that produces both lefts and rights—a rarity in the area. The beach is uncrowded and expansive, with stunning views, world-class surf just steps away, and some of the clearest water on the peninsula. It’s a quiet, off-grid community surrounded by raw desert and wild coastline — ideal for those seeking peace, connection with nature, and a slower rhythm of life.
