The space

This ranch house is part of a project called ‘The Baja Station.’

Our philosophy is based on bringing together art, science and nature to create the ultimate environment for human learning, creativity and wellbeing.

The Baja Station is an off-grid facility and our solar power provides all the basic comforts, which include: refrigeration, super fast and unlimited starlink wifi, lights, fans in every room and hot water showers.

The Baja Station beach lodge currently has capacity for 12 guests between three double rooms and a dorm room. All the double rooms include a dedicated work space that includes a desk, chair, power sockets and a lamp. Those staying in the bunk room can use the communal areas for working which incudes desks, tables and comfortable seating areas with power sockets and wifi connection.

Currently there are two shared outdoor showers and two shared toilets.

If you are seeking luxury and privacy, this is probably not the place for you. However if you like the idea of a social living experience in a rustic/artistic space with like-minded people, in a central, beachfront location then this will be right up your street.

The master bedroom has a king size bed made from upcycled pallets and a work desk, along with a wardrobe built from a wooden log frame. There is a front window from which you can see the take off point on La Fortuna’s main surf break, allowing you to actually check the surf conditions from the comfort of your own bedroom.

It is important to note that with this exterior window open, privacy from the village outside is reduced to certain corners of the room. There is also another window which opens into the Palapa lounge, which you’ll need to close if you want more privacy and open when you want more airflow during the hotter months. Generally you can leave the windows half way open for a good balance of airflow and privacy during the night. There is also a door that connects with the second bedroom, which remains locked whenever the rooms are not booked together.

We believe community is an important part of living, so we have put effort into creating beautiful common areas to be shared by our guests. These include our Palapa lounge with our giant leather sofa and hammocks that provide a nice cool area to chill during the daytime sun along with a range of musical instruments available to play and an art desk, to satisfy any creative energies.

Our communal kitchen features a giant 12-seater table allowing everyone to dine together.

We also have a second outdoor lounge area with fire pit, hammocks and bean bags, looking over the village and the Waikiki break, perfect for enjoying sundowners and starry nights.

Sustainability is a key priority for The Baja Station which means we are working on a range of green initiatives and technologies like water recapture from our showers, composting toilets, waste recycling and upcycling and food production.
