The palm roof and big shutter windows maximise airflow to keep the room cool day and night. Lie in bed and gaze at the stars and in the morning simply sit up to check the surf. Your own desk and chair means you can work remotely, using our starlink wifi and if the surf looks good you can walk down to the water in less than a minute before coming back to your office as you left it.
The space
This space is part of a project called ‘The Baja Station’
Our philosophy is based on bringing together art, science and nature to create the ultimate environment for human learning, creativity, productivity and wellbeing.
The Baja Station Beach Lodge is an off-grid facility and our solar power system provides all the basic comforts including: refrigeration, unlimited high-speed Starlink internet, lights, fans and device charging capabilities. We have beautiful hot water showers although all the water is brought in by truck and stored in a tank so please exercise water conservation wherever possible.
The Baja Station currently has capacity for 14 guests between four rooms and we are currently adding more. Currently there are two outdoor showers and one toilet shared by everyone (second one on the way). If you are seeking luxury and privacy, this is probably not the place for you. However if you like the idea of social living in a rustic/artistic/conscious space with like-minded people, then this will be right up your street.
The Palapa Beach Hut has a double size bed made from upcycled pallets and small space for hanging clothes, in addition to a desk. There is front window from which you can see the take off point on La Fortuna’s main surf break, allowing you to actually check the surf conditions from the comfort of your own bedroom.
We believe community is an important part of living life to the full, so we have put effort into creating beautiful common areas to be shared by our residents and guests. These include our Palapa lounge with our giant leather sofa and hammocks that provides a nice cool area during the daytime sun to hang out and relax. There are a range of musical instruments available to play as we love music and always welcome a jam session.
Our communal kitchen features a giant 12-seater table allowing everyone to dine together and for a very reasonable price you can enjoy delicious traditional Mexican meals lovingly provided by Consuelo, our live-in cook.
We also have a second outdoor lounge area with fire pit, looking over the village and the Waikiki break, perfect for enjoying sundowners and starry nights.
Sustainability is a key priority for The Baja Station project which means we are working on a range of green initiatives and technologies like water recapture from our showers, composting toilets, waste recycling and upcycling and food production
Adventure and play is what we love, so there is a range of surfboards available for rent along with a range of watersports equipment and beach swag. We can also organise transport to town, surf surfaris and a range of other experiences in the area for you.
I currently live across the arroyo in a converted school bus with my dog Papaya and so I will be available each day to answer questions and help you make the most out of your time with us.
Guest access
You will have access to your bedroom area and all common spaces including: kitchen/diner, outdoor lounge, indoor palapa lounge, storage, WC and showers.
Other things to note
We live in close proximity with our neighbours and the other residents of La Fortuna, which is a quiet place. We value and encourage music making and playing, although we request our guests join us in keeping the volume to a minimum after 9pm on week days and 11pm on weekends.
