How to get here?

The best way to get around the East Cape is with a rental car. The East Cape road from San Jose is paved until the last 5km, which is dirt. There are no gas stations after San Jose, so ensure your tank is full. The drive from San Jose centro takes 20 minutes on paved roads and 10 minutes on dirt, with an additional 25 minutes to the airport. The dirt road is regularly graded, so a 4×4 isn’t necessary, but avoid mentioning your East Cape plans to the rental company. Driving at night is risky due to unlit roads and animals; drive slowly. Without a rental, you might find an Uber to La Fortuna during the day, but it’s rare after dark, and no Ubers operate from La Fortuna back to San Jose. Alternatively, we can arrange a private driver for about 1500 pesos one way. Once in La Fortuna, you can walk to surf breaks, bars, and the village shop. However, a vehicle is needed to visit other surf spots like Shipwrecks or Nine Palms, or you can book a guided trip with us.

Surfing is the main attraction, with waves for all levels and a small selection of surfboards for rent at Baja Station. Windsurfing and kiting opportunities are also available, with limited gear rentals for experienced users—ask for details. Snorkeling and spearfishing gear can be rented for guided experiences or solo exploration of the rocky, marine life-filled coastline. Cabo Pulmo, an hour away, offers incredible scuba diving, and we can arrange transport. Freediving courses are also available with advance booking. From December to April, we run humpback whale-watching tours, providing intimate, undisturbed interactions far from the crowded Cabo waters. Stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are available to explore the coast or spot whales during the season, offering a budget-friendly alternative to boat tours. We also rent a quad bike for beach and arroyo exploration. The Baja Station Cafe hosts cultural activities like open mic sessions, live music jams, yoga classes, outdoor movies, and science talks on weekends
