About us

Our vision

The Baja Station is an off-grid community space dedicated to maximizing human potential through learning, creativity and wellbeing. Our philosophy is based on a living and working environment that combines a deep artistic and scientific connection to nature.

To transform a wild stretch of Baja coastline into a thriving off-grid oasis where art, science, and nature come together to inspire learning, creativity, and sustainable living. We envision a vibrant community of explorers, artists, scientists, educators, and travelers, collaborating in harmony with the land and sea to deepen human understanding and build a better future.

Our Philosophy

We believe that nature is the foundation of everything, the source of creativity, knowledge, and wellbeing. At The Baja Station, we see art and science not as separate disciplines, but as complementary ways of exploring and understanding the natural world. Through hands-on learning, open collaboration, and mindful living, we aim to cultivate curiosity, self-expression, and a deeper connection to the environment. This is a place to question, to create, to share, and to grow, guided by the rhythms of the ocean, the desert, and our shared humanity.

OUR STORY

The Station is the living expression of a dream I created when I was sixteen years old, to sail around the world and find the perfect beach to build a paradise by the sea, where people could come together to learn, explore, create, and live in harmony with nature. A place where science and art blend into one, the kind of place Leonardo da Vinci himself would find inspiring. A place that felt like home, but also like a frontier: wild, beautiful, and full of possibility.

That first part of the vision led me from London to Australia, where I studied marine biology and specialized in underwater acoustics and marine mammal communication. I then spent twelve years working at sea, first on seismic survey vessels as a marine wildlife observer, before living aboard my own boat in the Caribbean and running documentary filmmaking expeditions. Eventually, I became a captain on luxury sailing yachts, saving the money to begin the next phase of the plan.

After years of searching for the right location, I finally found it in La Fortuna, Baja California Sur: a stretch of wild desert coastline where the waves break clean, the stars shine bright, and the land invites both solitude and community. In 2023, I leased an old ranch house and began converting it into an Airbnb. A few months later, I leased a neighbouring piece of beachfront land, placed a school bus on it, and started building what would become The Baja Station. It was humble and raw, off-grid, self-built, and supported by friends and volunteers who believed in the vision. But it had soul. And it had momentum.

Now, two seasons in, The Baja Station is evolving into the place I imagined at sixteen. We are a growing community of artists, scientists, travelers, teachers, and dreamers. Felisa now manages our café and guest accommodations with heart and care, and a small but committed network of friends and volunteers help run daily operations, build new infrastructure, and keep the energy flowing. Together, we’ve created something that feels both grassroots and ambitious, shaped by the land, the people, and the purpose.

We host live music, film screenings, surf retreats, workshops, and collaborative research projects. We grow food, recycle greywater, and explore sustainable technology. Our focus spans everything from whale song and underwater acoustics to meditation, AI, dream states, carpentry, documentary filmmaking, and music production. It’s an open platform, rooted in the land, shaped by those who contribute to it.

The Baja Station is a lifelong dream, still unfolding. It’s not a finished product, it’s a living, breathing place of possibility. A sandbox for knowledge, creativity, and regeneration. And it’s just getting started.

Fields of Exploration

At The Baja Station, we explore nature in its broadest sense, from the song of a humpback whale to the inner workings of the human mind. Our approach is deeply interdisciplinary, blending the arts, sciences, and philosophical inquiry to reveal new patterns, perspectives, and possibilities.
Our key areas of interest include:

Music & Visual Art – as tools for expression, communication, and understanding the natural world.
Animal Behavior & Musicality – with a special focus on marine mammals, particularly the complex vocalizations of whales.
Documental production as a powerful medium that blends art with science to share knowledge and inspire people.
Marine Ecology & Wildlife – understanding ocean life and protecting fragile coastal ecosystems.
Sustainable Technologies – exploring practical solutions like solar energy, greywater recycling, regenerative agriculture, and off-grid desalination.
Engineering, Carpentry & Natural Construction – designing structures that harmonize with the desert and respect the planet.
Artificial Intelligence & Neuroscience – as mirrors to and extensions of natural intelligence and cognition.
Consciousness, Metaphysics & the Science of Spirituality – including meditation, dream research, and the mysteries of perception and being.

Core Values of The Baja Station

Understanding nature through the union of art and science. Living it through practice.

Learning & Exploration

Learning is at the heart of our purpose. We believe that greater understanding, of ourselves, each other, and the natural world, begins with curiosity and is deepened through direct experience. Through exploration and experimentation, we grow knowledge that leads to conscious action and meaningful growth.

Creativity as a Natural Force

Creativity is not just expression, it’s a force of nature. We value imagination, improvisation, and artistic risk as vital ways of understanding and shaping the world. Whether through music, movement, design, or storytelling, creative expression connects us to something deeper, and drives innovation across all disciplines, including science and technology.

Wellbeing as Foundation

We believe that individual and collective wellbeing is essential to productivity. By caring for our bodies, minds, and environments — through movement, exercise, good food, rest, and intentional living — we create the foundation for a healthy, regenerative community.

Sustainability through Stewardship

Nature provides everything. In return, we act as stewards of the land, the ocean, and the systems we depend on. Sustainability for us means not just minimizing harm, but actively regenerating and reimagining how we live.

Community through Collaboration

We thrive together. Our community is built on shared effort, open exchange, and mutual support. By learning from one another — across cultures, backgrounds, and disciplines — we unlock new ways of thinking and living. Collaboration is not just practical; it’s transformational.

Openness to Possibility

We hold space for new ideas, people, and ways of being. We welcome those who question, challenge, and expand what’s possible — and believe that real growth comes from staying open: to change, to feedback, and to the unknown.

Freedom through Play

Joy is serious business. We believe play is essential to creativity, learning, and wellbeing. Surfing, jamming, building, wandering — it’s in these moments of freedom that insights arise, connections form, and the magic of The Station comes to life.

Work through Productivity

creating, building, solving, contributing, is one of the most meaningful things a person can do. At The Baja Station, we encourage a culture of purposeful work, where everyone is empowered to use their time, energy, and talents in service of something greater. Whether you’re composing music, planting food, wiring solar panels, filming a documentary, or teaching a workshop, your work matters.
